Dien Bien Phu became famous the world over as the place the Vietnamese defeated the French army and ended colonial rule. 500km (310 miles) from Hanoi, it is a beautiful valley bisected by the Nam Youm River and surrounded by high mountain peaks. Dien Bien Phu was chosen by French General Henri Navarre to confine movement of the "Viet Minh" guerillas. Yet after a seige of almost 2 months, it was the French who surrendered on May 6, 1954. Visitors can still find vestiges of the battlefields: trenches, bunkers, camps and bases on the hills. The old command post of General Christian de Castries was reconstructed to commemorate for the 40th anniversary of the victory in 1994. The roads snake through the valley, bending around the forest-covered hills and creating many magnificent travel routes.

Day 1 Hanoi arrival
On arrival at Noi Bai Airport, you are met and transferred to hotel. Ha Noi, Vietnam's capital, is a stylish and gracious city that retains an unique old world charm and some Asia s most striking colonial architecture. The many lakes and parks make for relaxing atmosphere. If time permits, we enjoy a short cyclo excursion through the bustling old quarter streets named after the specific goods once offered for sale at these places. Overnight at hotel.
After breakfast, we will start city tour with Ho Chi Minh Complex for visit Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ho Chi Minh Museum and One pillar Pagoda. Continue to visit Literature Temple, the first University in Vietnam in 16th century and Tran Quoc pagoda. Have lunch in one of famous restaurants in Ha Noi. PM: Visit Ethnological museum then have cyclo in the Old Quarter and visit Dong Xuan market, enjoy Water Puppet show in the afternoon. Overnight at hotel in Hanoi. Day 3 Hanoi Dien Bien Phu (B, L, D)

On your arrival, we'll drive to the hotel for the check in and lunch. In the afternoon, we'll take you to visit Dien Bien Phu Museum, the bunker headquarters of French commander, Colonel Christian de Casties. Visit A1 hill-where bitter fighting took place. Day 4: Dien Bien Phu sightseeing (B, L, D)
Heading out of town, we get well and truly off the beaten track as we trek into this beautiful mountain region. On the way we pass by the hill villages of San Sa Ho and Lao Chai which are home of the Black Hmong hill-tribe people. They still retain their age old cultural traditions and are recognisably distinct from each other by their dress. We finish our walking day on arrival at Ta Van village where we are guest of a Zay family. The accommodation is very simple and dormitory style, no western facilities. Overnight at homestay.
Day 5 Dien Bien Phu Hanoi (B, L)
In the morning, we go down the village to visit some local colorful market and learn about the life style of the local ethnic people here. Lunch will be served at local restaurant. After that, we leave the hotel for the airport to catch the afternoon flight back to Hanoi. Day 6 Hanoi Halong (B, L, D)
Boat trip 8.00 8.30: Our guide will pick you up at your hotel. On the way to Halong city, enjoy the journey through the rich farmlands of the Red River Delta and the scenery of rice fields, water buffalo and everyday Vietnamese village life. 12.15: Embark on Cruise for welcome drink followed by a cruise briefing. Enjoy a delicious seafood lunch while our cruiser heads to the bay passing the beautiful limestone seascape. 15.15: Visiting Amazing cave, one of the most amazing caves in Halong Bay. The two chambers that form this amazing grotto are decorated with thousands of spectacular stalactite and stalagmite forms. 16.25 Enjoy kayaking (weather permitted) with guideline around the fishing village then return to the vessel for free time at your leisure.
